Why rich Nigerians still prefer public transport

Owing a private car is a luxury associated with the rich or wealth in Nigeria, while public transportation is meant for the poor and not so well to do individuals in the society; but once in a while, you will still see those classified as rich and wealthy taking public transportation to get to their destination. Does it mean that they are broke or bankrupt? No, some of the reasons they prefer to use public transportation include;

1. To avoid the stress of Driving: driving through Nigerian roads with plenty potholes can be very stressful, in order to avoid the stress, they take public transportation.

2. Traffic Congestion: If there is mostly traffic congestion for road users in big cities across Nigeria most especially during the rush hour when many are in a rush to get to their destination at a time, usually early in the morning and late in the evening. The traffic congestion can take hours to clear off, it is easier to take public transportation where you can drop off once you get to your location.

3. To Save Fuel: Another good reason why wealth people take public transportation is to save fuel especially for long distance journey or for single passengers. It is more economical to travel using a public transport, than purchasing fuel to drive yourself to the location.

4. To Keep Fit: A good way some Nigerians prefer to keep fit is by using public transport system because they can drop a few blocks away from their destination and walk the remaining way. Some rich persons adopt this method to help them keep fit.
