A prepaid meter allows you to pay as you go for power, when you recharge your prepaid meter, you will be charged as you use. You can recharge the meter with a recharge meter card and when the amount on the card is used up, you will be automatically be disconnected from using electricity until you recharge. Some of the advantages of using a prepaid meter are that it is good for people with low budget and you only get to pay for the power as you use it. Unlike the post paid meter where you are charged at the end of the month; and most times you may be charged a higher amount than the value of power you consumed for the month

In this article, I will discuss some tips on how to save money when using a prepaid electricity meter;

- Reduce your Power Consumption: With the prepaid electricity meter, you only get to pay for amount of power you use, and the more power you use, the more your card will be surcharged. You can save money by reducing the amount of power you consume; only go for gadgets that as low voltage when shopping for electronics and always switch off heavy power consuming gadgets anytime its not being used. Newer electronics tend to use less power than older ones so get rid of that old fridge for a new one. Also ensure that the thermostats for your heaters are working well.

- Switch Of Your power When You Are Not Home: This practice is common in developed countries who know the importance of saving energy. You could switch off all your electronics from a central box or just switch of the power meter. No need to leave them on if you are not at home.
