Prostitution is said to be the oldest profession in the world today; how true that statement is, I can’t say but if you consider the fact that we have been hearing about prostitution even from the biblical times, you may see some atom of truth in the statement. Prostitution actually has to do with having sexual pleasure with another person for benefits, usually financial benefits; it’s a mutual relationship where one party satisfies the other sexually while the other party satisfies the other’s financial or other needs. Some Nigerian men patronize prostitutes daily and that is why the profession still thrives in the country.

Patronizing prostitutes make Nigerian men poorer in the following ways;

• High fees charged: Prostitutes don’t come cheap in Nigeria, even road side prostitutes charge as between N2,000 to N5,000 per night depending on the location and when you calculate that to 7 days a week, it is a lot of money going out from the man’s pocket. Also for men that prefer having them as girl friends; that is the runz girls, they have to pay more because they have foot the girl’s bills which may include house rent, school fees, and monthly allowance.

• It uses up their productive time: In the Western world, time is equated as money, that is why they incorporate the hourly payment mode, where people are paid for every hour they work; most men spend a lot of precious time that would have been invested in furthering their careers or starting a business, in the arms of prostitutes, thus making them poorer.

• No long term benefit: Having a relationship with a prostitute doesn’t really provide long term benefit than if one were married and faithful to his wife. At least a wife will be there for you and help with organizing your home as well as bearing your kids.
