It is said that over seventy five percent of Nigerian graduates are jobless or under employed; though I can verify how true this statistics is, but if you calculate the number of graduates that are being churned out by NYSC every year and minus it with the number of job opportunities that are available in the country, you will know that there is an atom of truth in this statistics. The question now is; why are Nigerian graduates jobless? I will provide three points in this article which I think are part of the reasons why Nigerian graduates are jobless;

1. Low Grades: Most job offers come with condition that the applicants must have a minimum of second class lower and above; and when this is the case, graduates that came out with poor results are left with no other choice than to forfeit such job opportunity even if the job description is one that the person an easily do.

2. Little or No Jobs: as I mentioned above, over a hundred thousand graduates are discharged from NYSC every year and number of job opportunities are very poor compared to the number of graduates being churned out into the labour market. When the few graduates with the proverbial long legs get into the few job offers available, others are left with no choice than to remain jobless.

3. Lack Of Creativity: Most graduates lack the innovative thinking and creativity needed by employees and business owners to take their business to the next level. They also have little or no ideas as to how to set up a business of their own or use their skills to make money.
