Things Nigerians can do to keep their hearts healthy

In recent times, there has been an increase in the occurrence of heart related diseases like Heart failure among Nigerians. This goes ahead to show that Nigerians are neglecting healthy habits needed to keep their hearts healthy and fit. Some of the major poor habits that have helped to increase the increase rate of high related diseases in Nigeria include; Poor eating lifestyle, which means eating meals that have more of fats, processed carbohydrates and sugar as a major ingredient in it. Secondly, lack of exercise; most Nigerians don’t make out time to exercise and keep fit, if you visit gym centers in the morning, the number of people you see their will tell you that most people don’t make out time to visit the gym to workout and keep physically fit.

On the other hand, some of the things Nigerians can do to keep their hearts healthy include;

• Eating Healthy: Nigerians should learn how to incorporate healthy eating as an everyday lifestyle; they should focus on eating means that contain more fruits and vegetables than fast or fried foods. Eat more protein but less fat and calories

• Losing weight: Nigerian that are over weight or obese should put in extra effort to shade the excess weight; excess fats in the body affects the heart and makes it very difficult for it to perform its function which is one major cause of heart attack or heart failure. Loosing as low as 10 KG can go a long way in keeping the person healthy. It’s however always best to lose weight based on the required body mass index and this takes your age, sex, height and weight into consideration. A good BMI ranges from 18.5 to 24.9.

• Walking: If you can make out time to engage in cardio workouts such as casual walking, it will help. You can at least make out 30 minutes everyday to talk a walk round the neighbourhood.
