Why Salty food is not good for you

Salt is a very important ingredient in the Kitchen, because apart from the fact that it is used for preservation of food stuffs, it gives taste to a meal. A meal without salt is tasteless and can hardly be enjoyed. Though salt is very important in our meal, too much of it can be very bad to one's health. Most people even go to the extent of putting extra raw salt to a meal if they feel that the salt that was added to the food wasn’t enough. Let’s review some of the reasons why a salty food is not good for your health.

First, salt helps the body retain fluid, and this in turn makes the body to put on more weight. Salt is one cause of over weight in the body, as it releasing the fluid out of the body, it retains it all inside. That is why Persons who wishes to loose weight is asked to reduces their salt intake, so the body can release the fluid its holding.

Secondly, salt causes high blood pressure. When the body retains much fluid than necessary, it affects the blood pressure, and increase in blood pressure causes the heart to work harder than it should and also damages blood vessels. When blood pressure is not managed, it can escalate to stroke and other heart diseases.

Finally, salty food affects the kidney and extra extreme cases leads to kidney failure, and when the two kidneys are not functioning well, it can lead to death.
