African native pear is native specie of pear that is found in Africa, the fruit has a pink back before it gets ripe, and after it gets ripped, it turns a dark purple colour. The fruit is boiled or roasted and eaten with corn, it is a local delicacy. The local name in Igbo is Ube.

Some of the health benefits of African native pear;

- Used In Making Toothpaste: African native pear is one of the ingredients used in making toothpaste because of the antimicrobial properties it contains. The antimicrobial properties help to kill bacteria that are responsible for mouth odour and tooth decay away.

- Antioxidant: The fruit is also contains antioxidants that help the wash out unwanted organisms from the body.

- Used By Traditionalist To Treat Some Ailments: African native pear is used by some traditional herbal doctors in the treatment of open faced wounds. They wash off dirt from the wound and rub the butter like greenish part of the native pear on the wound, the pear is boiled first to extract the greenish part.

- Treatment of Skin Diseases: the native pear has been found to be good oil used in the treatment of some skin diseases like ticks, ringworm, and craw craw. To use the fruit to treat a skin disease, scratch the infected part open, and wash the mount for it to be fresh and dirt free, place a native pear, and allow it to soften, bring it out and carefully pill out the out purple back, apply the green coloured part on the wound three times a day.
