Yam porridge is a popular dish eaten in Nigeria. The main recipes for preparing the meal are yam, vegetables and spices.

In this article, I will discuss the benefits of the yam porridge meal, but before that, I will give a quick review of how to prepare the yam porridge meal.

Some of the ingredients required to prepare yam porridge include;
Yam, Palm oil, Pepper, Salt, Spices, Vegetables like Fluted Pumpkin and Scent leaf, Onions and Crayfish. The quantity needed is dependent on the size of meal you wish to prepare.

Peel and cut the yam to little sizeable cubes, and put in a pot of boiling water, allow the yam to boil for 15 minutes, add the Palm oil, Pepper, Salt, Spices, Onions and grinded Crayfish to it. Allow to yam to get done and thicken, just before you bring down the meal from the fire, cut and add the Fluted Pumpkin and scent leaf. Some people opt to add smoked fish when cooking.

Some of the Benefits of Yam Porridge include;
Firstly, it is a good source of carbohydrate which provides the body with the energy it needs to carry out daily activities.

Secondly, the vegetables that is added to yam porridge serves as a good source of vitamins and fibre, and aids in bowel movement. So for people suffering from constipation regularly, a good meal of yam porridge with large quantity of fresh vegetables will help in clearing your digestive system and give you free bowel movement.
