Nigerian Fruits that fight cancer

With the increase in the number of People that suffer from cancer these days, it is important that you know both the cause of cancer, and also preventive measures to take in order to prevent the growth of cancer. One of the ways to prevent the growth of cancer in the body is to change your eating habits, and this involves low consumption of processed food and eating more of fruits and vegetables.

- Watermelon: This is one tasty and colourful fruit that can be eaten raw or drank as fruit juices. Watermelon is rich in vitamins A, and C. Watermelon contains lycopene which is a type of carotenoid, and carotenoid is known to lower the risk of prostrate cancer.

- Carrot: This is another fruit that helps in fighting cancer. Carrot contains high quantity of beta carotene which is an anti-oxidant that helps to fight chest, intestine and prostrate cancer,. Carrot also contains another substance called falcarinol which helps to reduce the risk of cancer in the body. It is advisable to eat carrots raw not cooked.

- Avocados: Avocados contains glutathione which is another antioxidant that helps prevent the intestine from absorbing fats, which is the major cause of intestine cancer, and avocado is generally known to reduce the risk of cancer.

- Paw-paw: This is another raw fruit that helps fight the growth of cancer, it contains a types of Vitamin C that is an antioxidant that absorbs nitrosamines which is a cancer causing substance found in processed food.

- African Star Apple/Udara/Agbalumo: This is also one of the anti-cancer fruits that is popularly eaten in Nigeria. It is called Udara in Igbo while the Yorubas call it Agbalumo and it is a reddish-yellow fruit that has semi-circled shaped seeds inside. Both its flesh and skin is eaten except for the seeds. It is very rich in nutrients such as fat, vitamin c and has anti-oxidant properties.
