The system generates 4 to 8 digits One Time Password (OTP) and customers to use the OPT when using their Interswitch debit cards to pay for a product or service on the internet.

Safetoken is is an extra precaution by Interswitch to reduce online fraud and to permit a transaction that is above the bank set limit, as long as the Online merchant is making use of the Interswitch payment gateway.

How to Generate Your OTP:
===================
There are two methods you can use to generate your OTP;
The first method is by dialling *322*0# to generate the password

The second method is using an ATM. This can be done with any ATM in the country.
Insert your ATM card, enter your PIN, and select your bank account type. That is Savings or Current account; select the Quickteller option from the menu listed on the screen, select pay bills from the Quickteller menu. Click on ‘Bill Payment’ menu and enter 322222 as the Biller code. Enter your phone number as the Customer reference number and select proceed. You will see message on the display screen ‘Do you want to make this payment? Amount due will be N1. Do not edit the message, click on ‘pay amount due. It will take you to a confirmation page. Bear in mind that you will be charged N100 as the convenience fee for every transaction you make with this service. It is worth noting that the OPT expires after about 9 minutes after it gets to you.

At times when making online transactions and you've provided your Interswitch powered debit card, a Safetoken will be automatically generated and sent to your linked mobile phone and you are meant to use that code to complete the online transaction. It is an added form of security on debit cards apart from just your card number and 4 digit ATM PIN.
