One way to recognize an African men or especially a Nigerian is the fact that the person’s hair is always shaved or is a low cut; it is only in rare cases where maybe the person is in the entertainment industry as a Musician or Actor that you may see Nigerian man whose hair is not shaved. In this article, I will mention some simple reasons why Nigerian men frequently shave their hair;

1. To look good: A short and well groomed hair makes a Nigerian man look good and smarter than if it were just bushy and wacky.

2. Fashion: asides from culture, it is also taken as a norm and fashion for Nigerians to shave their hair and keep it low and neat at all times. In places of work, study and others, it's becoming a norm to keep a short and well groomed hair.

3. For easy maintenance: Another reason Nigerian men shave frequently is because it can be time consuming to shape or groom the hair on a daily basis like women do as it's much easier to just brush the hair and get going off to work or school.

4. To beat the heat: It's mostly hot in Nigeria and so it would be inconvenient for a man to carry a bushy or long hair under this type of weather. The weather in Nigeria is hot almost all year round, and keeping of hair will actually keep a Nigerian man uncomfortable and may pose a distraction for him from getting things done.

5. To save money on growing and maintaining their hair: It is more costly to grow and maintain a man's hair than cutting it. This is because a lot of things like shampooing, oiling, combing and other hair treatment will need to be done in order to keep it health. Cutting it short saves all that stress and cost.
