Why Nigerian women use imported hair

Many years ago, I could still remember there were a lot of women then who used to weave their hair but nowadays, it is wigs and hair attachments that are the order of the day.

Over 70% of Nigerian Women use imported hair in place of their natural hair. These imported hairs are classified into two major types, and their classification is due to the materials they were produced from.

In Africa, Nigeria is the biggest market where imported natural and artificial human hair sells and the demand is not dropping.

The first type of imported hair is the Synthetic Hair, which is produced from artificial Fibre materials and not natural. The second type of imported hair is the Human hair and as the name implies, it is gotten from natural Human hairs.

Hair importation has turned out to be a highly lucrative business, because of the high demand for it by Nigerian women who feel they can't grow their natural hair properly. Some of this imported hair sell at very exorbitant prizes like the original Human hairs, but that not minding, Nigerian Women continue to patronize them.

Why do Nigerian women love wearing fake hairs unlike the Europeans or Americans who proudly do otherwise?

Let's look into reasons why most Nigerian Women still use these imported hairs and why the demand is still on the high side despite the cost.

- Their natural hair seems too hard to manage and style: This is one of the major reasons why Nigerian women use imported hairs. Naturally, Nigeria women are endowed with short, stubborn, and woolly hair. This makes it difficult for them to maintain their hair and kept it tidy. So they opt for the artificial hairs that are long, silky and shiny in nature.

- The Weather Condition: The weather condition in Nigeria is usually harsh. The weather is hot most of the time, and this hot weather makes the hair look dry and rough. So they prefer to use the imported hair both as a shield again the direct effects of the heat on their hair and to look good.

- To Beautify Themselves: Most Nigerian women would agree with me, that they look better when wearing an imported hair, than they do when they are on their natural hair. Because of the Silky and Shiny nature of these imported hairs, it is more beautiful to wear then that our natural hair.

- Easier to Maintain: It is less stressful and does not require a lot to maintain imported hairs, than to maintain the natural hair of a Nigerian woman. These imported hairs have already been designed to look good on their own, so little or no care is required to maintain them and to make them remain good and look neat. That is why most Nigerian women use the imported hairs, to avoid the stress that comes with maintaining there natural hair on daily basis.

- To Change Looks Regularly and easily: Nigerian Women use these imported hairs to change their looks regularly. Each brand of the imported hair are used to make various unique hairstyles. So they use them to make various styles of hair and change their looks. Also, when you make a hair with any of the imported hair, it lasts longer than the natural hair, making it more economical to use for Nigerian Women.

- High disposable income: Most Nigerian women nowadays especially in the cities tend to have more money to spend and they invest that money a lot just to look good and appealing to men. This was unlike the case in the past when women didn't have much money aside feeding their families.
