Most Nigerians universities and higher institutions normally require that any student that wishes to gain admission into them to take a Post UTME. The Post UTME is usually conducted individually by the schools, and the schools make their choice of Candidates from the best performing students. Recently there have been moves to pass a bill to scrap the Post UTME.

Some of the reasons why Post UTME is not good for students are:

a. It Is Financially Challenging: Most higher institutions in Nigeria charge exorbitant fees for the Post UTME form, and not just that, students have to make another payment in order purchase PINs for checking results. This puts a serious financial strain on the students.

b.It amounts to multiple Testing which is unjust: Students are first expected to take the UTME exams conducted by an external body called JAMB and despite passing the exams, they are still subjected to further tests in the name of Post UTME organized by those higher instituons and the students have to pay fees for both. This is quite unjust for students. One test (UTME) should be enough to access the students and the successful candidates should be given admission into the higher institutions of their choice.

c. It Shows Disregard For UTME: Going further to conduct another test for students after the student has successfully passed the UTME exams which is a national exam shows a deep disregard for the UTME exams since JAMB has officially been recognized as the body that offers admissions. In other words, the management of these schools are trying to imply that the UTME is not reliable enough for them. In order for UTME to regain its original respect, the Post UTME has to be done away with.
