A photocopier is an electronic machine used in making duplicate copies of paper documents. Photocopiers are usually seen in offices where there is need to make duplicate, and paper copies of documents.

Photocopiers work either the use of xerography which is Greek word for dry writing, or ink jet to produce duplicate copies of the original documents. Xerography technology makes use of dry ink powder to imprint on a plan paper to produce a duplicate of the original copy.

While a scanner is a machine that captures images from magazine page, passport photograph, converts it into a digital format and displays on a computer for editing and resizing. Most scanners come with Photoshop software that helps the user resize and edit the image displayed on your screen.

To get a better understanding of these two machines, let’s look into some major differences between these two machines:

- A scanner requires a computer to work effectively. It is the computer that displays the digital format of the image for editing, while a copier machine does not require a computer to work effectively. You feed plan paper sheets into the copier; it produces a duplicate copy of the original document.

- The end Results: A scanner produces its result in a digital format, while a copier produces its result in a hard copy format.

- Technicality: A copier does not require much special technical knowledge to operate it, while a scanner on the other hand, requires some technical and photo editing skill to operate the machine.
