Here in Nigeria, a lot of people prefer using mobile phones than laptops. This can be seen when you compare the large number of mobile phones imported into the country to the lower number of Laptops also imported one on hand and then the greater number of People using Mobile phones to those who use Laptops. Some People even own more than one Mobile phone, but you can hardly see a Person that owns more than one Laptop in Nigeria. This article will discuss some of the reasons why Mobile Phones are commonly used here in Nigeria than laptops.

- Portability: One major reason why Nigerians commonly use Mobile phones than Laptops is because of the portable nature of a Mobile phone. It is easier to carry a phone around with you wherever you are going, unlike a Laptop that is heavier and larger and not that easy to move around with, especially if you are carrying it by yourself.
- Easier Maintenance: It is easier to maintain a Phone and it is also cheaper to repair damage in a Mobile phone, unlike a Laptop. For instance, to change a cracked screen of a blackberry phone will not cost up to N5,000, while to change the cracked screen of a Laptop will cost from N15,000 upwards . Lets take another Instance, the battery of a Mobile phone cost less than N3,000 to get a new one, while to get a new for a Laptop, you have to budget at least N12,000 for it depending on the make of the Laptop.

- Cost of Internet subscription: One Major reason People buy phones and Laptops is to be able to access the internet. Here in Nigeria, the cost of Mobile Internet Subscription is far cheaper than that of modem Subscription used in browsing on Laptops. So they prefer going for the cheaper option, which is using the Mobile Internet Subscription, since they can access the internet with a Phones as with a Laptop.

- Longer Battery Time: Generally, a Phone or a Laptop with a flat-out battery is not useful to the Owner at the moment, and battery life is one factor thing Nigerians look out for when buying their Gadgets. The battery life of a Mobile phone lasts longer than that of a Laptop when charged. Nigerians prefer to own Mobile phones because of its battery life. One ca use a laptop to browse the web for about 6 hrs but a laptop may only last up to 2 hrs or less when used for browsing. In Nigeria, due t inefficient power supply, battery time is essential.

- Multi Functions: Finally, apart from making calls and sending text messages, Most modern mobile phones can do most things that a Laptop can do. You can view your documents with PDF, save and transfer files, play games, access Mp3 files, access the internet and many more with a Mobile phone, and since they can do all that with their Mobile devices, they don’t always see the need to own a Laptop.

This article has outlined five major reasons why Nigerians prefer Mobile phones to Laptops, from its portability, its battery life, to its functions. Though Laptops has its major advantages over a Mobile phone, its all depends on the Owner and what the Person needs the device for.
