PHCN is quietly fizzling out the use of Post-paid meters in Nigeria and are fully introducing the use of prepaid meter. The post-paid meter as the name sound allows you to use power, but you are surcharged at the end of the month for the power you consumed during the month, while for prepaid meter, you pay as you use the power, which means that you have to recharge the meter before you can make use of power, this works like a phone where you have to load airtime into your SIM card before you are permitted to make a call.

Though the use of post-paid meter is not totally bad as you get to use power supply and you will only have to pay at the end of the month, this article will look into some of the advantages of the prepaid meter and why it is better than the post-paid meter.

First, the prepaid meter saves you money, as you only get to use your power credit when there is power supply as opposed to the post-paid meter were you will be billed irrespective of the amount of power you consume within the month, as there has been issues where people where sent PHCN power bills at the end of the month even when there was no power supply throughout the month.

Secondly, you can control your power consumption rate with the prepaid meter, as you can put off your card to stop reading even when there is light, in order to make your prepaid recharge last longer.
